With potentially over 10 million illegal and dangerous tyres on Britain’s roads in 2016, this year’s Tyre Safety month in now underway with the slogan, “Don’t chance it, check it!”
Stuart Jackson Chairman, Tyresafe
“Tyre performance, particularly in the wet, gets worse as tread wears away. Tyres wear more quickly as they get close to the legal limit. We recommend you check tyres more often when they reach 3mm of tread and then replace them when they get down to 2mm”
Howard Curle Spokesperson, AATyres
“The NTDA recommends a regular safety check of your tyres to avoid three penalty points on your driving licence and a £2,500 fine per tyre, for having tyres worn beyond the legal minimum limit on your vehicle.”
Stefan Hay Director, NTDA
