Green Tyre Runout & Profiling
The problem
Semi automatic tyre building machines suffer inherent variability as they rely on operators to accurately and repeatably position and splice green tyre components during 1st and 2nd stage processes. If there are variations in component thickness, profile and length then these problems are compounded leading to excessive runout and non-uniformity of the green tyre. Data suggests a direct correlation between green tyre errors, such as runout and finished tyre errors.
The solution
Portable systems comprising a tripod mounted laser spot sensor or laser sheet of light sensor may be used to diagnose green tyre errors. Green tyre runout may be measured to high accuracy using a variant of the Finished Tyre Runout system configured for green tyres. A 3D profile of the 1st stage carcass and 2nd stage belts and tread may be obtained using a laser sheet of light solution to determine component position, component symmetry about the centreline, step profiles and the presence of localised high or low spots.
