Finished Tyre Runout
The problem
Vibration due to tyre imbalance is the major cause of vehicle ride problems, driver discomfort and accelerated tyre wear and often associated with radial and lateral runout resulting from tyre and wheel assembly non uniformity, improper bead seating or mounting of the tyre.
Wheel balancing machines commonly use capacitive sensors for measuring tyre runout after the tyre has been assembled onto a rim. However capacitive sensors are limited as they must be positioned very close to the tyre surface and measure over a 10mm may not be used for all tyre compounds due top changes in dielectric properties.
The solution
Sigmavision has developed a low cost laser measurement system that may be used as a portable unit in conjunction with a manual tyre balancing machine or as a fixed mounted installation on an automatic tyre balancer. The system is designed to measure radial runout on the tread face and lateral runout on one or both sidewalls using dedicated, fixed mounted laser spot sensors. Read more ![]()
